Please do not contact the surgery to ask when you will receive your Covid Vaccine.  We can only run clinics based on the vaccines that are made available to us. We will contact you.

Prescriptions: We no longer take prescriptions over the phone. We request that you fill in the repeat slip on your form and post it through our letterbox or email your request. Alternatively you can use Patient Services to order your medication.

IF YOU REQUIRE A PRESCRIPTION PLEASE POST THE REQUEST THROUGH OUR LETTER BOX OR USE OUR ONLINE SERVICE.  WE CAN ARRANGE FOR THIS TO GO TO A CHEMIST OF YOUR CHOICE, PLEASE ALLOW MORE THAN 48HRS DUE TO THE HIGHT DEMAND AT THIS TIME.

Should I see the Doctor or Nurse Practitioner?  Nurse Practitioners are highly trained specialist nurses who have completed further education and training so that they can provide advanced nursing care and prescribe medication.  They can provide treatment and advice for many of the problems that traditionally you saw your Dr about in the past.  If you are unsure if they can deal with your problem please ask at Reception.

Nurse Practitoner

Nurse Practitioners (NP's) are highly trained specialist nurses who  have completed further education and training so that they can provide advanced nursing care and prescribe medication. 

NP's can provide treatment and advice for many of the problems that traditionally you saw your Dr about in the past.

Appointments are available to see the NP every weekday for common minor illnesses. The NP can examine you,  make a diagnosis and give advice and prescriptions for medication when required.  The NP will also refer you on to a Dr, either here or at the  hospital , if she feels it necessary.  The NP can also order some tests such as blood & Urine tests, or request a chest x-ray if needed. 

 

What can the Nurse Practitioner deal with? 

  • Skin problems or rashes
  • Chest infections
  • Breathlessness
  • Conjunctivitis, sticky eyes, stye
  • Diarrhoea or constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Urine Infections or Cystitis
  • Shingles
  • Dizziness and headaches
  • Vaginal thrush/soreness/discharge
  • Acute back pain or joint sprains
  • Oral thrush
  • Breast lumps
  • Sexual health advice
  • Change of contraception pill or method
  • Tonsillitis

Coughs, sore throats, earache, swollen glands, sinusitis and flu-like illnesses often resolve within a week with home treatment and over the counter medicines from the Pharmacy.  It is not unusual for a cough to last 3-4 weeks after your cold/flu symptoms have gone.

 

NP's will not prescribe very strong painkillers, or sleeping tablets, and will not see patients with mental health problems as are not trained in this area.  If your health problem is very complex, or longstanding, it is often best to see your Dr.
